The legend says Medveja was called after a mythological Greek enchantress Medea, for she was the first to walk into the sea from its beautiful and spacious pebble beach. Over the years once a typical fishing village has grown into a popular tourist destination with everything necessary for a quality holiday.
Recently a hiking trail leading to Lovranska Draga was cut, enabling hikers to reach Lovranska Draga in about an hour. Lovranska Draga is a village in the Učka Nature Park, set 600 meters above sea level, affording its visitors a lovely view of the Bay of Kvarner. Medveja has a large camping site, one small hotel and an array of private homes and accommodations. Medveja is 2km from Lovran and 8km from Opatija, the centre of the Riviera.
